DK Travel – the next BIG thing in travel guides
by asi
It’s a known fact that ‘travel’ was always a leading category in terms of web activity. Not only is it one of the first categories to go online in terms of ticket reservation and booking, but, more importantly to my view, people have built vibrant online travel communities and shared information years before ‘web 2.0′,UGC, and ‘community’ have become a hackneyed marketing buzzwords.
Community sites like Virtual Tourist and Trip advisor were sort of a landmark in users’ reviews, recommendations etc. and only recently the traditional travel-guide companies and traditional media realised that when it comes to travel and holidays, like-minded people are the best source of information and recommendations on where to go, where to eat, where NOT to stay etc. The travelers of the world (in accordance, I assume, with the booming of the budget airline revolution) have set up the trends of sharing, connecting and recommending.
And now Poke designed a website for DK Travel that can only be described as the next BIG thing in travel guides and information.
With DK Travel you can now create / personalise your own travel-guides on the fly in beautifully formatted, print-ready PDF.

Tom explains it better that I can so in his own words:
“…So, aside from browsing your chosen destination, viewing attractions, and booking flights/hotels/tickets – which is what you can do on other sites – the BIG idea here is to allow users to “roll their own” travel guides with just the stuff in them that they want, saving weight carried and money spent on guides that mainly go 80% unread. These personalised guides can be purchased for £2.50 in PDF form (free for a limited period now) and in a couple of months can be ordered as special one-off bespoke book, delivered straight to your door or hotel. Add to that community ideas like allowing people to share their ideal holiday itineraries in a “playlist fashion” and the UGC component of attraction suggestions and you start to transmogrify a publisher into a leaving, breathing travel publishing community … and one that makes money doing so”.
Have a play with the endless offers, it’s really a simple, magical website.
If you’re into travel, this site can make you drool in delight.
