graceful tooth for graceful girls

It’s Israel 59th birthday today and in Haaretz, (Israeli quality daily) there’s a great interview (which unfortunately they didn’t publish in the English version] with David Tartacover a highly regarded artist and graphic designer known for his radical political posters.
He comments on the evolution of Israeli print advertising and put it in context of political, demographic and economic changes in the early days of the Israeli society. It’s very interesting to see how the construction and transformation of the Israeli identity manifest itself into these old print advertising.
This one is for a shaving cream and it reads: “Even the stubborn cactus beard surrenders to Shemen” (cactus is also the collequal for native Israeli).

This one below is for a tooth paste and it’s a bit difficult to translate but it reads “graceful tooth for graceful girls” (note that the upper graceful is written with abbreviation sign – it means female soldiers)

nice one.
