This may well be the album of the year

Yesterday Nivke introduced me to Hercules & Love Affair and through the flood of amazing stuff that’s knocking on my ears from different directions, this stands out and not just because I always wanted to hear melancholic croon Antony Hegarty doing dance music.
This self-titled debut springs from the ornate imagination of Andrew Butler of NYC is packed with vocal contributions from Antony (of & the Johnsons), a woman called Nomi whose own debut album Lost In Lust was described as “Sade meets Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA”, and acid-house DJ/singer Kim Ann.
I’m no good at articulating music in general and electronic/dance in particular but this one is such an uplifting, highly emotional, unique, deeply satisfying and insanely catchy piece of work – This may well be my album of the year.
