Gardfield minus Garfield

As some of you remember, I have a particular interest in niche blogs that kick ass (check out the comments there’s some really brilliant stuff there). Today I found this border genius project “Garfield minus Garfield” which is exactly that - a look at Garfield comic strips where Garfield been removed. The result is an intriguing visual monologues that look like a glimpse on loneliness, modern life, depression and other forms of madness.
Hysterical.

I wonder if it’s just the simple manipulation of taking two participants dialogue and making it one crazy person’s monologue or is there something unique about Garfield that make it so compelling.

Who or what exactly does Garfield represent? Whoever thought of this Garfield minus Garfield blog sure had the right idea. The strips could actually stand alone and they do seem like internal monologues. I wonder if the person behind this idea knew what was to come of deleting Garfield from the strips?
